Peptides Are Not Steroids: What You Actually Need to Know

Let us clear something up. Peptides are not steroids. They are not hormones. They are not supplements you order from a website overseas.

Peptides are short chains of amino acids that signal specific biological processes. Your body already makes them. The ones returning to legal compounding status are synthetic versions of compounds your body naturally produces or encounters.

HHS Secretary Kennedy announced last week that roughly 14 peptides banned from compounding in 2023 are moving back to Category 1. This means compounding pharmacies can legally prepare them again with a valid prescription from a licensed provider.

What this is not:

  • Not FDA approval (these are still off-label)
  • Not over-the-counter (requires a prescription and medical supervision)
  • Not available yet (compounding pharmacies expected to begin stocking around July 2026)

What this actually is:

A set of clinical tools that address specific problems in medically supervised programs.

BPC-157 heals the gut. Derived from human gastric juice, it reduces GI inflammation and promotes tissue repair. For patients on GLP-1 medications dealing with nausea and bloating, this is a targeted solution, not a band-aid.

CJC-1295 + Ipamorelin preserves muscle during weight loss. It stimulates natural growth hormone release, improving body composition so you are losing fat, not muscle.

PT-141 addresses sexual dysfunction through a completely different mechanism than Viagra or Cialis. It works centrally in the brain, not on blood flow. Relevant for the large percentage of patients whose libido is affected by hormone changes, weight loss medications, or SSRIs.

Thymosin Alpha-1 supports immune function. Approved in 30+ countries, strong clinical data, particularly relevant for patients with chronic immune concerns.

The key word in all of this is medically supervised. These are prescription compounds administered under provider guidance with lab monitoring. That is the difference between evidence-based medicine and the Wild West.

We are building our peptide protocols now. When availability opens up, we will be ready.
